Aurora Studio Tour 2016

Saturday November 19th and Sunday November 20th were the dates of this year's Aurora Studio Tour. Artists readied themselves and their studios, and welcomed visitors into their private spaces, where they create their most passionate work. What a wonderful experience for art lovers or those people who are just plain curious about where artists make it all happen.

My group, Local Colour Aurora, displayed 40 pieces of artwork at Hillary House as part of their two month long Art at the Manor exhibition. Different LCA artists took shifts during the weekend to meet and greet studio tour visitors. A steady stream of traffic on both days keep everyone on their toes. The atmosphere enchanted everyone who came to Hillary House as she had just been decorated in a traditional Victorian fashion for Christmas. The first snowfall outside came right on cue, adding a spark of anticipation for the upcoming holiday celebrations.

Each LCA artist displaying at Hillary House was asked to paint one piece that depicted the traditional home in some way. Interior or exterior. I chose to do exterior and ended up with a very unique piece, very different than the other exceptional artists in the group. I did a sketch, which I showed you a while back in a blog post, but couldn't quite get the painting to the canvas the same way I saw it in my head. I had started off with a teal sky and a blue house. It just was not working and I ended up taking the painting to the laundry tub in the basement and scrubbing most of layers of paint off. This kind of thing does happen from time to time. Once the canvas was dry, I started again, using different colours and this is what I came up with.

The Art at the Manor exhibition runs until January 27th, 2017. Please make a point of checking it out along with some of the festivities that the Aurora Historical Society has planned for the Holiday Season.

Until next time,

Visual Storytelling Exhibition

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to display my work at the Colleen Abbott Gallery located inside of the Aurora Public Library. I'd never shown there before. Really, who would think of going to a library to look at art? Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It was an awesome experience and I've been back to show my work there whenever possible.

The library is lit by natural light during the day which makes it bright and welcoming. Also a great thing for showing artwork. The people who run the operation are always friendly and wonderfully helpful. Over all it's a great place to spend some time.

Each year, artists apply to hang their work at this venue. This year is my year be here again. From October 24 to December 19, 2016, my work, along with Judy Sherman's, will be hanging at the Colleen Abbott Gallery. Our exhibition is titled "Visual Storytelling". All of our paintings tell a story so what better place to display them than at the local library.

Check out this short video and make sure to drop by the Aurora Public Library during our exhibition.

Also, Judy and I will be hosting an Artists' Reception on Saturday, November 12th from 2:00 PM to
4:00 PM at the Aurora Public Library located at 15145 Yonge Street, Aurora, Ontario, L4G 1M1.  Stop by and say hello.

Until next time,
